OK, as a former Toyota Technician I'll speak up about this, Stopping a runaway Prius cannot be done like a regular car for starters the Transmission shifter is electronic, there is no cables or anything like that the best way I can describe it is like a switch, which is integrated into the fly by wire accelerator which is the problem with the Prius ....so essentially from what I'm understanding the FBW board fucks up and reads a hard accel so there is no shifting down ... also remember the Prius is front wheel drive hitting the E-brake could cause more of an uncontrollable condition rather than stop the vehicle. I run-a-way Prius is actually a scary thing if you think about it..... Its essentially a electric motor with a big battery, the Gas Engine really doesn't more than supply power as needed to the electric motor so in a hard accel condition the Electric Motor is running and the gas engine is running supplying extra power to the motor so its that much harder to stop. just about everything is electric on the damn thing in fact you can't even work on them at the dealership with out special certification as you do something wrong on the electrical system you can very easily be killed....

By the time you realize whats happening you dont have time to run into someing "soft" to slow down. at 60 miles an hour your screwed if you run into something.

BTW what is it with San Diego and toyota? first we get the Police officer crashing in Santee and now the latest of runaway prius' happen in El Cajon not even 10 miles from santee. Its a conspiracy

i just laugh at how much this is destroying toyota's name. if you dont know it by now, the whole floor mat recall was just the cheap way out of the sticking accelerator.

    exactly my point LOL

i work at a lexus dealership detailing cars and when they first came out with the floor mat recall i thought it was a joke. even if the floor mat covers the gas (which in some models it can) its not going to hold the gas pedal down enough to override the brakes. i knew from this point that it had to be something in the design of the gas pedal

I just know Priuses are a gigantic pain in the ass to jump start. My friends died in front of my house on a cold night, and we went to jump it and couldnt find the (+) connection. So we checked the manual and in huge letters it says theres a specific way to do it...and goes through like a 15 page process. A normal jumpstart apparently doesnt work...you have to like reset the starter circuit by pushing the pedal X numbers of times, cycle the key 4 times, flip the sunroof twice, take key out, make a sandwhich, then attempt to start.

    Seriously...reset the starter circuit? wtf.

Today, on the way to to work I saw a Prius all smashed up, TOTALED! It looked like the person/Prius had to take out a few other cars before it finally stopped. I was like damn that's a serious wreck!, then a couple minutes after, it dawned on me that it was a Prius with it's murderous accelerator problem, LMAO. That's what these traitors get for not supporting their country and buying crap import vehicles.

I laughed when I heard about the floormat thing. People will blame anything on anything these days. If I buy a car and the floormat seems to cover the accelerator, I'll go buy a shorter floor mat for the drivers side.

    lol love these pages
"Hummer costs around $1.95 per mile to operate, and the Prius costs around $3.25 per mile. Not to mention that the Hummer has tripled the life expectancy of the Prius at 300,000 miles whereas the Prius is expected to be unusable at 100,000."
    so over the life: 300,000
Prius $325000 X3= $975000(not counting you will need to buy 3 prius to one hummer)
    Hummer $585000

The hummer comparison has been out there for awhile saying the carbon foot print of a prius is worse and that
